News
I pre-tried St. Aubrey's Ale this evening, and I have to say... it's not horrible. It's fairly hoppy so it's pretty bitter, but that's what I was going for. It's even carbonated correctly! I'm so proud of my baby.

Website progress
I've made some more progress over at trey-rhodes.com. The comments are now working on the main page, so you can tell me what you think of the site as it comes along. I had been trying to get it working as a symfony module but because I can't really change the php configuration with my host, I couldn't get the url routing system to work, and symfony won't work without that. I did get the comments working with out a framework however, and they even post back with an AJAX request using the prototype javascript library. At any rate, head on over and see what you think.
I think I'm going to start working on a map of restaurants, coffee shops, bars and other things I've found and liked in my 3 years in Atlanta using Google Maps, similar to what Gabby has done on his Bacelona Blog.

Bottles and Good Times
So yesterday, with the help of my roommate Jennifer, I bottled my first 42 bottles of St. Aubrey's Ale. This first batch is an IPA, and I think the batch might actually turn out well. I picked the name not only because I like the sound of it, but also have a feeling my chances of being canonized are slim to none. The bottles need to condition for about two weeks to carbonate, so they should be ready for consumption around July 5th. Consequently, if anyone feels like coming up with a St. Aubrey's logo, I'd love to have one. In other news, we went to see Gentleman Jesse and His Men at the Earl in East Atlanta. They played through their entire new album, which I have to say was pretty awesome. It was the guitarist's, Craig's, last show before he leaves for Australia. Since Craig is a WREK alum, there were a number of people from the station there which made the show a lot of fun. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Thinking About the Future

Every time I see footage from those old 50's house of the future displays, it makes me think about how perceptions about our future our probably wrong. I get the feeling that we're not going to have a race of humanoid robot's minding our every need. We have robots working for us now, but as it turns our a giant hydraulic arm is much better at welding cars than something that looks similar to Rosie form the Jetsons.
Throughout history, we've advanced civilization through the use of tools, and tools, while they can be highly specialized, lack personality for the most part. If you think about it, most of the technologies thus far that were meant to emulate human interactions either come off as trivial novelties, or major annoyances (remember the ms word paper clip?). At any rate I really don't want have to convince my washing machine to do my laundry. The most popular new technological helpers like the roomba have their value formed by their utility, not their ability to seem human.
At any rate, with the economy going the way it is, I have a feeling that in 30 years it will seem more like 1978 than 2038.

New Website
As you may have noticed from looking at the address bar in your browser, I bought a domain (go insomnia!). To go along with it, I'm setting up a personal website for my self. Head on over to trey-rhodes.com and check it out. It still needs a lot of work, but let me know what you think about the layout (that I didn't come up with). I should be working on it over the next few weeks so be sure to check back on it, and let me know what you think.

New Blog
Well, we done graduated to the new millennium over at the Back Alley Pork Roost (only 8 years late). Check out the shows new blog at bapr.blogspot.com. You can view track listings for the show and even listen to last week's edition. Enjoy!
Blog Progress
So, this blog has gotten over 250 hits now. That's not too crazy, but I'm surprised, seeing as I don't really tell people about this thing. Also, this page finally got indexed by google (if you search for 'hotdogshotdogs' this comes up second, go figure). I should put up some adwords, maybe in a few years I might make $2.

Beer!
So my first batch of beer is sitting and fermenting. Everything went really well, it just took a little while to boil 5 gallons of water, and I scorched the malt extract a little but I think it should turn out ok. The kit I got was for an American style IPA, which is one of my favorite types of beers. Listen out in about 3 weeks, because I think we're gonna have a party to celebrate when this batch is done.

Capitan's Log, Stardate ... about 7
This has been one of those weeks that just makes you want to come home, rip off all your clothes and fight a polar bear.
Actually, the week was busy, but it ended really well. I had a meeting with my boss and showed him everything I have done so far this summer and he was really impressed today. My beer brewing equipment came in and my first batch of yeast is activating on top of the tv. Things are going well at the radio station.
I still kind of feel like I'm missing something...

I found this in the drafts for the blog... I don't really remember writing it
Following these simples steps, you should have yourself a date in now time:
1)Yell at women on the street when you're passing them in you car. It doesn't matter what you yell, just make sure it's not expected. Girls love surprises, especially from strangers.
2) Never look at a girl in the eyes, especially when she's talking. Girls are very skittish, and if you look like you paying attention, she may get startled.
3) Fight her Dad. Girls need to be reassured that you can protect them. Also, you need to show them who they belong to now.
4) Buy her a dress that is a couple sizes too small

Rable Rable
This week, Philadelphia is threatening to evict the local Boy Scout Council out of the building that they have rented from the city (for a dollar a month) . The city acting to try to stop their "subsidizing discrimination" because of the BSA's choice to exclude homosexuals from the organizations adult leadership. If you know me, you can probably guess the side on this issue, but I feel like a have a few points to make.Firstly, I want to make it clear that I do not, and never have, held any ill will toward the gay community. Having said that, I whole-heartily support the BSA's right to exclude anyone they want from their private organization. I do not think that the city of Philadelphia has a right to penalize a group of citizens for exorcising a right that was recently upheld by the supreme court. If the boyscouts can not chose the leaders in their organization, then can there be organizations only lead by those who are married, or made up of people who live in a certain area? I feel like a personal trait like sexual-preference should be legally trivial. By legally protecting homosexuals from discrimination by private organizations, doesn't that set a legal precedent homosexuality is different? I completely agree that businesses and public organizations should not discriminate against anyone for any kind of generality, but until I can join a Latino wife's book club, I can't see how it's right to bar the BSA from excluding homosexuals.
As for the BSA's policy, I can't say that I completely agree with the policy, but being in the organization for years, I do understand the thought behind it. The vast majority of those involved with scouting do not think that gays should be kept out of the scouts because they are bad people or that their lifestyle is evil. The policy stems from a want to promote the traditional nuclear family, because they feel that lifestyle provides the most healthy environment to grow up in. Because homosexuals don't prescribe to that lifestyle, they feel that they would rather have leaders that promote the traditional family life. Like I said, I don't completely agree with it, but I have to admit that it is by no means unreasonable.
Yell at me if you'd like, but this is just my two cents.

Good Times
"People who drink light 'beer' don't like the taste of beer; they just like to pee alot."
So Saturday was the East Atlanta Beerfest, and I definatly filled myself up on pilsners and pale ales, followed by a burger and fried okra from the Earl, a nap and game of poker. I definitely can't complain about how I spend my time right now.
Also, I've decided to start brewing my own beer, so that will be my project for the coming weekend. I'll keep the progress posted, and listen out in about a month to see if it's any good. I might have to have a party so I don't end up drinking 5 gallons by myself.
